Day Activity: Ngorongoro Crater Safari
A thrilling full-day game drive in one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife sanctuaries.
Early Morning Departure (5:30 AM – 6:00 AM)
Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Enjoy a scenic drive through the Great Rift Valley and Maasai villages on your way to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Arrival at Ngorongoro Crater Rim (9:00 AM)
Upon arrival, take in the breathtaking views from the crater rim before descending 600 meters (2,000 feet) into the caldera for an unforgettable safari.
Game Drive in the Crater (9:30 AM – 2:00 PM)
Explore the vast plains and diverse ecosystems of the Ngorongoro Crater, home to over 25,000 animals. Your safari includes sightings of:
- Big Five: Keep your eyes open for lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinos, and elusive leopards.
- Hippo Pools: Observe hippos lazing in the water.
- Lake Magadi: A soda lake where flamingos and other water birds gather.
- Open Grasslands: Home to zebras, wildebeest, cheetahs, and hyenas.
Picnic Lunch by the Hippo Pool (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM)
Enjoy a packed lunch in a scenic picnic area within the crater while watching hippos and taking in the incredible surroundings.
Afternoon Game Viewing & Ascent to the Crater Rim (2:00 PM – 3:30 PM)
After lunch, continue your game drive as you slowly ascend back to the crater rim, capturing the last breathtaking views before heading back.
Return to Moshi/Arusha (4:00 PM – 7:00 PM)
Depart the conservation area and begin the drive back to your hotel, arriving in the evening with memories of an extraordinary safari
