Day 1: Arusha to Lake Natron (Ngare Sero)

Begin your journey with a morning departure from Arusha, traveling towards Mto wa Mbu near Lake Manyara. Enjoy a scenic drive and stop for lunch before continuing north along the dramatic Great Rift Valley escarpment. Arrive at Lake Natron, a striking alkaline lake known for its flamingo population and other unique wildlife. Settle into your campsite near the village of Ngare Sero, nestled at the base of the majestic Ol Doinyo Lengai. Spend the evening soaking in the breathtaking views as the sun sets over the landscape.

Day 2: Trekking from Lake Natron to Ol Doinyo Lengai

After breakfast, set out on a three-hour hike from Lake Natron to Ngare Sero, passing through rugged terrain and stunning landscapes. From Ngare Sero, continue for another three-hour trek towards the lower slopes of Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active volcano and sacred Maasai mountain. To save time and energy, a vehicle will transport you up a steep gully, reducing what would otherwise be a six-hour hike. Set up camp for the night in the gully, preparing for an early morning ascent.

Day 3: Summiting Ol Doinyo Lengai & Return to Lake Natron

Start your climb in the early hours before sunrise, taking advantage of the cooler temperatures. The steep ascent requires endurance, but the reward is a breathtaking sunrise view from the summit, where you can witness active lava vents and sweeping panoramas of the surrounding plains. After enjoying the summit, carefully descend along the same route—taking caution on the loose volcanic gravel. Upon reaching the base, return to your Lake Natron campsite, where you can relax and reflect on the day’s adventure.

Day 4: Return to Arusha

After a restful night, enjoy breakfast before departing for Arusha. Travel back through the diverse landscapes of the Great Rift Valley, arriving in town by the afternoon. Your adventure concludes with a drop-off at your preferred location, marking the end of an unforgettable journey.

Would you like to include additional activities, such as a visit to the waterfalls near Lake Natron or a cultural experience with the Maasai?
