Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, you will be greeted by our friendly guide who will assist with your transfer to the hotel. Relax after your journey and prepare for the adventure ahead. If time allows, take a short city tour to explore the vibrant culture of Tanzania’s largest city.
Take a morning flight from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma, located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring Kigoma, visiting local markets, the historic Ujiji town (where Stanley met Livingstone), or enjoying a sunset boat ride on the lake.
Take a scenic boat transfer to Gombe Stream National Park, famous for Jane Goodall’s pioneering research on chimpanzees. Spend two days trekking in the forest, observing the fascinating behaviors of wild chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Explore the beautiful waterfalls, take a dip in Lake Tanganyika, or hike to ‘Jane’s Peak’ for a panoramic view.
Depart from Gombe and enjoy a boat ride along Lake Tanganyika towards Mahale Mountains National Park. This remote and pristine park is home to one of Africa’s largest populations of wild chimpanzees. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains during the journey
Go on an exhilarating trek in search of Mahale’s famous chimpanzees. The park has no roads, so all exploration is done on foot. Enjoy a scenic boat and car transfer back to Kigoma. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, relaxing by the lake or taking an optional cultural tour of the region
After breakfast, take a flight back to Dar es Salaam. If you have extra time before your international flight, consider extending your stay in Zanzibar, Mafia, or Pemba for a beach holiday. Safe travels home
